This is an exceptional example of an original 1923 Stoeger Commercial Contract DWM/Mauser "American Eagle" Navy variation Luger pistol with the full A.F. Stoeger frame and barrel extension markings. These American Eagle Lugers were the very first Stoeger Lugers made expressly by DWM under contract for the Stoeger Arms Company in New York for import into the United States. Although it is estimated that less than 1,000 of this model was made they are very rare today, especially the Navy and Artillery variations, in this original high end condition; of the two modes, the "Navy" model is by far the rarest and very seldom seen! The chamber is marked with the American Eagle crest with the DWM logo on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension is roll marked "GERMANY" next to "A.F. STOEGER, INC./NEW YORK.". The right side frame rail is correctly roll stamped in small letters "LUGER-REGISTERED U.S. PATENT OFFICE". The front of the frame is also stamped with a very small "GERMANY" below the serial number and the underside of the barrel is stamped "GERMANY". It is correctly marked "SAFE" and "GELADEN" in the safety area and extractor respectively for this variation. The pistol is stamped in the commercial serial number fashion with the front of the frame stamped with the full serial number "454v" with no number on the underside of the barrel with "54" on the underside of the side plate, left side of the breech block, underside of the toggle assembly, takedown lever and trigger with no other parts being numbered. The underside of the barrel is additionally stamped with a small single "Crown/M" Commercial proof. It is complete with one early nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base. The pistol has an attractive original blue finish with straw colored small components and checkered walnut grips.
