This is just an outstanding example of a WWII Mauser contract P.08 Luger. These were the very last, late war production Luger as produced by the Mauser factory before all production ended when they switched to the new P38 model pistol. The top of the chamber area still carries the two digit date "42" for the year of manufacture with the secret wartime Mauser code of "byf" on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the two "Eagle/655" Waffenamt proofs, along with the single "eagle/swastika" firing proof. The left side of the barrel has the single small Eagle firing proof, with the right top edge stamped with a single small Eagle 655 proof. It is correctly marked in the military fashion with the full serial number on the front of the frame, the left side of the barrel extension and the underside of the barrel with the last two digits on all the various small parts with the right side of the frame in front of the safety lever stamped with the small "P08". This series of pistol is still fitted with checkered walnut grips with the all salt blued finish, with an all blue "fxo" marked magazine with the black plastic unmarked base with the cross pin.
