This is an exceptional example of a late production Model 1888 Springfield Trapdoor rifle with ramrod-bayonet. This final variation featured the unique ramrod-bayonet, one-piece trigger guard, serrated trigger and butt compartment. The lock plate is marked with the standard eagle/shield motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" ahead of the hammer. The low arch breech block is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884", the left side breech end of the barrel is marked with the "V/P/eagle head/P" proof and inspection marks and there is an "A" on the top. The barrel is fitted with the Buffington rear sight with precise windage and elevation adjustments. There is a sling swivel mounted on the front of the trigger guard and front barrel band. Blue finish with casehardened breech block and barrel tang. Mounted with a one piece full oil-finished black walnut stock with a sharp "SWP/1891" cartouche on the left wrist, small stamped "N". And circled script "P" directly behind the lower tang and "US" marked buttplate tang.

Near mint. The rifle appears to be un-issued and un-fired and shows only minor storage wear. The barrel, lock and trigger guard retain 99% of the original blue finish. Wear is limited to several very minor scratches on the barrel and some minor finish loss on the heel and toe of the butt plate. The breech block and barrel tang retain 98% plus original vivid case colors. The stock is also near mint and shows only very minor storage wear. The final inspection stamp and proof mark are sharp. The markings are crisp and clear. This is an exceptional Model 1888 Ramrod-Bayonet Rifle that would be very difficult to improve upon.
