Manufacturer: Springfield Armory U.S. Model: 1879 Trapdoor
Manufactured in 1880. The breechblock of the carbine is marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" and the lock plate is marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873" ahead of the eagle motif. Equipped with a ski ramp ladder rear sight graduated to 1,500 yards, marked "C". The rear left side of the barrel has "V/P/Eagle Head/P" proof and inspection marks. Three click tumbler, single barrel band and low arch breechblock. The carbine stock has a crisp "SWP/1880" cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The left side of the stock also has a saddle bar with ring. The underside of the stock behind the trigger guard has a circled script "P" and the buttplate has "US" stamped on the tang. The buttplate has a compartment that holds the included three piece cleaning rod.

Excellent. The carbine retains 90% plus original blue finish showing some thinning to a brown with some very scattered light spotting. The underside of the barrel has an area of gray light pitting. The breechblock and tang retain 98% plus original case colors. The stock is also excellent with a couple pressure dents and some minor handling marks with a barely noticeable hairline crack present on left side of stock protruding from rear sling bar base. The cartouche is clear and crisp. Mechanically excellent. We have auctioned very few that were better than this example!
