This is an excellent original example of a U.S. Model 1911.45 caliber automatic pistol that was manufactured by the Springfield Armory in 1914. The Springfield Armory manufactured 27,855 Model 1911 pistols between December 1912 and April 1917. The pistol has the same dull rust blue finish that is found on pre -WWI Springfield Model 1903 rifles. The oil-finished checkered walnut stocks have slightly larger diamonds surrounding the screw escutcheons, The two-tone lanyard loop magazine has the distinctive flanges over the floor plate. The front sight is an integral part of the slide and the 'Type III' long hammer has knurling that continues over the rear edge of the hammer spur. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped with the Springfield Armory Spread Eagle/Shield motif followed by "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY.". The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the distinctive three-line Colt patent markings followed by "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/U.S.A." in two lines and the Ordnance 'Shell and Flame' insignia behind the slide serrations. The right side of the frame is roll-stamped with the serial number, "No 102920", behind the slide stop hole. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" in front of the trigger guard bow and the 'Shell and Flame' insignia above the magazine release. The Springfield Armory "S" mark is stamped on the inside of the barrel bushing, the inside of the slide stop and on the right side of the hammer. The barrel has the same dull blue finish as the frame and receiver. The right side of the barrel lug is stamped with the Springfield "S" mark and a "P" proof mark is tamped on the left side of the barrel lug.
