Exceptional U.S. Property Marked Colt Model 1908 Hammerless Pocket Automatic Pistol

U.S. contract Colt Model 1908 Hammerless Pocket Automatic pistol manufactured in 1943. The pistol has the Colt commercial blue finish. The barrel is blued with a polished chamber. The checkered, oil-finished, walnut grips are inlaid with nickel-silver Rampant Colt medallions. The pistol has a two-tone, 7-shot magazine. The pistol has the late pattern square top rear sight and serrated ramp front sight. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE .380 HAMMERLESS" in two lines. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the elongated Colt Hartford address above the 1897 and 1903 patent dates. The Rampant Colt trademark is stamped behind the left slide serrations. The right side of the frame is roll-stamped: "U.S. PROPERTY" above the trigger guard. The left side of the frame is stamped with the serial number "136876" above the trigger guard and the small Ordnance Escutcheon final inspection mark behind the slide safety. The Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow. The magazine floor plate is roll-stamped; "CAL.380/COLT" in two lines. The Army purchased 3,133 Colt .380 Hammerless Automatic pistols between 1942 and 1945; some of these pistols were issued to Army general officers, U.S. Navy intelligence and the OSS.

Excellent plus. The pistol is in un-issued condition and retains at least 98% of the high polish, pre-war style, Colt blue finish. Wear is limited to some minute finish loss on the right edge of the slide at the muzzle. The magazine retains 98% of the original two-tone finish with some minor wear on the floorplate. The grips are in near perfect condition with sharp checkering. The pistol appears to be in excellent mechanical condition. This is an exceptional, nearly new example, of the very desirable, U.S. contract Colt Model 380 Hammerless Pocket Automatic pistol.
