Exceptional U.S. Colt/Springfield Armory Model 1911A1 National Match Semi-Automatic Pistol
This is an example of a mid-WWII U.S. Army Model 1911A1 pistol manufactured by the Colt factory that was subsequently converted into a National Match style semi-automatic pistol, by Springfield Armory. The slide used on this specific pistol was one of the Colt commercial contract slide as produced in the 1960s, as the right side is marked "COLT'S MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A" and the left side is marked, "GOVERNMNET MODEL / AUTOMATIC / CALIBER 45". The rear sight is a commercial target model manufactured by the Micro sight company and so marked on top with a small "US" stamped on the left side and it has the standard fixed square front sight blade. The frame is marked on the right side "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial number/SA and "M1911A1 US ARMY" towards the front. The frame is stamped with a small "T" and "NM". The barrel is a late production Colt National Match model that is marked on top "NM 7790429/ COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./5628" and it is correctly fitted with a Colt/GI National Match barrel bushing that is marked "7267718/NM". The front of the frame has been heavily stippled and it has the late production narrow hammer, serrated thumb safety, slide stop and main spring housing. The grips are commercial checkered walnut that were installed during the overhaul. It is complete with one parkerized magazine marked with a single "L" on the lip and a reproduction shipping box with the serial number penciled on the underside.
