This is a beautiful example of a custom made single shot rifle made by Martin Hagn. Martin Hagn was born in Munich, Germany in 1943. After attending public school he attended the Gunmaker School in Ferlach, Austria from the age of 14 to age 19. He completed 4 years of gunmaking training and 1 year of stockmaking. After graduation he worked for Griffin & Howe in New york until 1966. In 1967 he returned to Germany and worked for Kettner Company and Oberhammer in Cologne, and Krieghoff in Ulm to gain more experience. In 1969 he received his Masters Degree in Munich. From 1970 to 1985 Hagn owns his own shop in Germany where he focused on the Hagn Single Shot rifle, a design for which he is well known for. In 1985 he moved to Canada and has been building custom rifles ever since. This fine rifle features a blue barrel and coin finished remaining parts. The action is nicely engraved with fine floral scroll designs by German engraver Heinz Funk of Eckernforde, Germany. The engraving design extends to the trigger guard/lever, top of the breech block and there is a small wedge on each side of the barrel at the breech with a gold inlaid band. The sides of the action are engraved "MARTIN HAGN" in a banner, the serial number is engraved on the lower tang and signed "FUNK" in front of the trigger. The barrel is fitted with a ramped blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight with "100" meter marking and gold sighting line, and has a Zeiss Diatal-Z 4x32 scope mounted on claw type bases. The sides of the scope mounts are engraved with the same design. The top of the barrel is engraved "KAL. 7 x 57 NR. 88575" at the breech and "M. HAGN GRANBROOK B.C. CANADA." ahead of the rear sight. There is a sling swivel mounted on a barrel band ahead of the forearm and there is a tang mounted safety. Mounted with a beautiful checkered Turkish burl walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with teardrop flats, engraved metal grip cap, cheek piece, sling swivel and leather wrapped recoil shield. The screw heads on the sling swivels are engraved with a floral design. The included American Custom Gunmakers Guild certificate from the Office of the Historian certifies that the firearm described has been designed and crafted by a member of the ACGG and has been recorded in its Custom Gun Archive. The certificate confirms the features described including the Funk engraving. Also included are letters from Hagn Rifles & Actions regarding this rifle.
