Manufacturer: Remington Arms Inc Model: 1903 A3
This Model 1903A4 Sniper rifle was manufactured by the Remington Arms Co., in 1943. The rifle is fitted with a Weaver M73B1 2.20X telescopic sight with Redfield mount. The scope has a fine cross-hair reticle and click-adjustable windage and elevation knobs. The scope body is blue. The data plate on the scope is roll-stamped "TELESCOPE M73B1" above the three-line Weaver patent markings and address. The scope mount and rings are parkerized; the ring and mount screws are case-hardened. The right rear of the scope mount is roll-stamped "REDFIELD". The rifle has the distinctive Model 1903A4 features which include: (1) Type "C" pistol grip stock with bolt relief cut-out, (2) modified bolt handle, (3) rear sight removed to accommodate the scope mount and (4) barrel with no front sight base or blade. The buttplate, small bow trigger guard, lower, middle and upper barrel bands, sling swivels and stacking swivel are early production Remington parts with a blue finish. The barrel and receiver are parkerized. The barrel is the four-groove style utilized on early production Model 1903A4 rifles. The receiver markings "U.S./REMINGTON/MODEL 03-A3" are 'rolled' to the left side of left side to allow them to be viewed with the scope mount in place. The serial number, "3421479" is located on the right side of the receiver below the scope mount. The barrel is roll-stamped "RA" above the Ordnance 'Shell and Flame' insignia and the date "8-43". All of the bolt components, the magazine cut-off lever, sling and stacking swivels and the upper barrel band are stamped with the Remington "R". The left side of the stock below the receiver has traces of the original boxed "FJA" final inspection stamp and Ordnance escutcheon. An encircled "P" proof mark is visible on the inside of the pistol grip. The bottom of the pistol grip is stamped with the manufacture's "W" code. Remington sub-inspection marks are visible on the underside of the stock in front of the floor plate finial. The rifle is complete with a scarce russet leather lens cover.
BBL: 24 inch
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 30 06
Finish: parkerized/blued
Grips:
Serial Number: 3421479
Condition:
Excellent plus. The rifle appears to be all original and retains close to 98% of the blue and parkerized finish with minimal handling wear. The bore is filled with grease but the muzzle crown and visible rifling have negligible wear. The scope is in the same excellent condition as the rifle with good optics. The stock is in excellent overall condition and appears to be original to the rifle but has been lightly sanded and re-oiled and the proof and final inspection marks are very faint. The rifle has no rebuild or overhaul marks; all of the components have the original blue or parkerized finish. Most Model 1903A4 rifles were arsenal over-hauled and re-finished following WWII. This is a scarce example of a Model 1903A4 rifle with the original finish and components.
