Exceptional Rare Winchester-Lee Straight Pull Sporting Rifle

These scarce rifles were manufactured with the same action as the Winchester-Lee Straight Pull Rifle adopted by the U.S. Navy in 1895 and chambered for the then revolutionary 6mm Lee (.236) cartridge with approximately 1,700 sporting rifles manufactured from 1895 to 1902. The top of the barrel is marked "MANUFACTURE BY THE/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN.U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and the caliber marking ".236 U.S.N." appears in front of the receiver. The left side of the receiver is marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.-/NEW HAVEN.CONN.U.S.A. PAT.OCT.10.93.JAN.30.94.OCT.8.95" with the serial number marked on top of the front receiver ring. Blue 24-inch rapid taper barrel with a sporting style rear sight and a raised brass blade front sight, five-shot clip fed box magazine and mounted with a smooth one-piece walnut pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap embossed with the Winchester legend, forearm grasping grooves and steel buttplate.

Excellent. The barrel retains 95% original finish with some thinning to a smooth plum on the forward portion. The receiver retains 95% original finish with some thinning to a smooth plum and some high edge wear. The buttplate retains most of the original finish with some minor spotting and a couple small areas of minor pitting. There is some minor pitting on the left side of the magazine housing and the trigger guard. The stock is very good retaining 99% original finish with overall scattered minor dings and dents. All markings remain crisp and clear. Mechanically fine. An excellent example of a rare Winchester-Lee Sporting rifle.
