Beautiful large light brown Albany glaze Anna Pottery Pig Flask. Incised with the Mississippi River from the right hear that runs down the back of the flask to the rear of the pig. The words inscribed, "Miss River" identify the Mississippi River. Incised near the words Miss River you can find the Eads Bridge in St. Louis incised next to a small dot identifying St. Louis and the words "St. Louis the future capitol in and points to the rear of the pig. The Kirkpatricks were frustrated and vocal about the decision to keep the Nations Capitol in Washington, D.C. and not move it to a more central location such as St. Louis. Incised on the right side of the pig is the words "Latest & Most reliable Railroad and River Guide" inside a drawing of a pig you will find "By/Anna Pottery". The left side of the pig features a detailed railroad and river guide featuring the following railroads inscribed: C. & V. R.R., O. & M. R. R., C & St. L. R. R., I.C. R.R. In Kirkpatrick brother fashion they list their favorite towns in prominent locations and their obvious dislike for other towns by placing them in less flattering locations. On what is believed to be the best part of the pig the hind quarter where the ham is found you will find inscribed "Anna the Jug City". It is rare to see them list "the Jug City" on a flask and this adds to the rarity and extra details that went into the making of this piece. The towns such as Cairo you will find inscribed "Cairo the" pointing the rear of the pig. Suggesting that is in the hogs ass. Mound City is simply listed as "Mounds" near the testicles of the pig. Other towns listed on the guide are, Grand Touer, Kaolin, Jonesburo, Carbondale, Centrailia, Odin, Bloomington, Springfield. The underbelly of the pig is incised with "Cincinnati the ancient Pork City". Indicating that Cincinnati no longer is viewed as the Pork Capitol it once was. Under the chin of the pig is listed "Chicago the Corn City". Great example of an Anna Pottery Pig Flask with some very unusual characteristics added to create a one of a kind piece.
