German Officer's Shooting Prize sword manufactured by Wyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co. (WKC), of Solingen, Germany c.1930. This scarce sword has a 33-inch Damascus blade with round back and swelled 9 1/2 -inch tip. The back 13-inches of the blade have acid-etched, gold plated, floral engraving with inscribed panels on either side. The sword was awarded as a shooting prize: the panel on the reverse of the blade is etched with the winner's rank, last name and unit designation. The panel on the obverse of the blade is etched with the name of the event and the date "1930". The maker's name and address: "WYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & Co SOLINGEN" is etched on the back of the blade. The" Knight's Helm/WKC" trademark is roll-stamped on the obverse ricasso. The sword has a gold-plated brass hilt with D-shaped knuckle bow, bird's head pommel, shield-shaped languets and down-turned quillion. The grip is black hard rubber wrapped with triple strands of twisted wire. The counter guard, pommel, back and base of the grip are decorated with a cast oak leaf motif. The Nazi Eagle and Swastika insignia is cast on the obverse languet. The reverse languet is plain. The steel scabbard has a single suspension ring and frog loop and has a black enamel finish. This is a very high quality sword with rarely encountered Damascus blade and extensive, gold etching.

Extremely fine. The blade is in excellent condition and retains most of the Damascus finish and 80% plus of the gold wash. 75% of the gold-plated finish on the hilt remains. The grip is in excellent condition. The scabbard is in fair to good condition; there is one shallow dent in the side and the black enamel finish has numerous minor scratches, 70% of the original finish. Irrespective of the scabbard wear, this is an exceptional example of a pre-war, presentation, Army officer's sword by one of the best Solingen sword makers.
