This is a nice example of an early pre-war, pre-Nazi Mauser Banner rifle. These rifles were actually transition rifles between the very first commercial Mauser Banners and the actual Banners, purchased by the German Army for initial use. The receiver side wall of this rifle has commercial markings: "MAUSER -WERKE A.G.OBERNDORF A.N.". The top of the receiver ring is marked with the Mauser Banner logo over 1934, for the year of manufacture, with the left side marked with commercial "Crown over B, U, G and N" proofs along with the early serial number followed by a diamond shape. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the serial number followed by a diamond shape. Correct pre-war walnut stock and handguard featuring finger grooves on the sides and a flat metal buttplate. It has all the correct early milled components, barrel bands, trigger guard, and floor plate. Comes with the original cleaning rod and an early unmarked commercial style 98K bayonet with bright blade and metal scabbard. The bayonet is unmarked, but it has the early style pre-war bright and the handles are also of a nice light honey colored walnut that matches the rifle.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 79727
Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 97% original blue finish showing some thinning on the bolt handle and some wear on the bolt from normal use, with some scattered light spotting on the barrel. Some of the markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. The stock is very fine with several quarter moon shaped dents and a small area of cracking (flaw in the wood) on the right rear, and a few minor dings and dents overall. The bayonet remains bright with a few minor dents in the handle and the scabbard retains 98% original blue finish with some light thinning and a number of small dings. The action is excellent.
