This is a very late example of a Winchester Model 1890 Third Model slide action rifle manufactured in 1943. It has the standard front and rear sights with the correct barrel address on the top left flat. The face of the frame is stamped "43", thought to be for the year of manufacture when Winchester produced these guns as a parts cleanup using the postwar bluing process. Many serial numbers were skipped after 1932 with the highest serial number recorded being 849,100 and only 24 guns were manufactured as part of the cleanup. With such a high serial number it is highly probable that it was one of the very last ones manufactured. The tang marking is the correct style without any dashes and the magazine tube has the improved collar that was introduced in 1911. Mounted on a 12 groove walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a curved steel buttplate.
