This is a truly exceptional example of a Merwin Hulbert & Co., large frame, double action, revolver with round barrel, top strap, fluted cylinder and flat butt. The revolver has a nickel-plated finish with color casehardened hammer and trigger guard. The two-piece grips are checkered hard rubber. The butt is fitted with a factory lanyard ring. The barrel has an integral half-moon front sight and the top strap has a sighting groove. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. New York, U.S.A. Pat. Apl. 17. 77. June 15. 80. Mar. 14. 82. Jan. 9. 83." in a single line. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line marking: "THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co. Norwich. Conn. U.S.A.". "CALIBER/WINCHESTER 1873" is roll stamped on the left side of the frame below the cylinder. The assembly number, "3706" is stamped on the face of the barrel lug and the rear face of the cylinder. The serial number, "19997" is stamped on the butt behind the lanyard loop.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver appears un-fired and retains 99% of the original nickel plated finish with only light handling and storage wear. The nickel plated finish on the barrel, cylinder and frame is free from flaking and wear is limited to some scattered and very minor age spots. The hammer and trigger guard retain approximately 97% of the original casehardened finish with strong case colors. The checkered, black hard rubber grips have browned slightly but remain in excellent condition. The barrel and frame markings are sharp. The bore is in perfect condition and the revolver shows minimal firing wear. The unique Merwin Hulbert action is tight and functions perfectly. This is an exceptional example of a highly desirable Merwin Hulbert & Co., large frame, double action revolver.
