Exceptional Merwin Hulbert & Co. Large Frame Double Action Revolver

This is an example of a scarce late production fourth model Merwin Hulbert & Co., large frame, double action revolver with top strap, solid barrel rib, fluted cylinder and flat butt that was manufactured in the 1880s. The revolver has a nickel-plated finish with color casehardened hammer, trigger and trigger guard. The two-piece grips are checkered hard rubber with the checkered board pattern at the top. The butt is fitted with a factory lanyard ring. The barrel has an integral half-moon front sight and the top strap has a sighting groove. The top of the barrel is roll stamped with the legend "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. NEW YORK, U.S.A./PAT. APR. 17. 77. JUNE 15. 80. MAR. 14. 82. JAN. 9. 83." The left side of the frame under the cylinder is stamped "CALIBER/WINCHESTER" followed by "1873". The hammer has a folding spur marked with the 1885 patent date. The serial number "23481" is stamped on the butt, rear cylinder face and back of the barrel lug with the assembly number "2591" on the left side of the frame under the grip panel.

Excellent plus. The revolver retains 99% plus original nickel finish showing some very scattered very light flaking. The hammer and trigger guard retain nearly 98% vivid original case colors. The grips are excellent with a few minor handling marks near the bottoms and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
