This is a very rare and desirable later production K98k long side rail sniper rifle produced by J.P. Sauer & Sohns in Suhl and mounted with an unmarked center focus adjustments. These long side rail snipers were the last major variation of sniper rifle that was produced during WWII by the Germans and represented probably the best and most durable of the designs. Development of this series of rifle started in mid 1943 at the J.P. Sauer and Sohns factory and were thought to be the original prototype designer and developer of this series of rifle based on their extensive pre-war sporting rifle experience. These rifles were produced on a special enlarged receiver ring that was able to facilitate the machining of a cutout or lip on the left side of the receiver to which a large scope mounting base was fitted and held on by three large screws and two taper pins. As noted, initial development started in 1943 and during that year only J.P. Sauer and Sohns produced long side rail sniper rifles, making them relatively scarce. After that (1944-45) production slowly transitioned to the Gustloff Werkes in Weimar (with receivers coded "bcd") with assembly and final acceptance by inspectors from Sauer and Sohns during that first year. The top of the receiver is marked with the Nazi firing proof over "ce/B in a triangle/43", the right side with an "eagle/389" and the left side with a Nazi firing proof. The left side of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof over the serial number and the right side "G243". Stamped barrel bands, milled floor plate and trigger guard with "Mod 98" marked winter cover and laminated stock with eagle proof marks and faint "3017" on the right side of the buttstock. Sling and cleaning rod are absent.
