Exceptional Inscribed 1825 Powder Horn,<p>9" in length, 3" diameter at the turned wooden plug, with great ring-turning. Entire surface of the horn is decorated, with two bands of text, one reading "Don't Tread on Me" over asinuous diamond-back rattlesnake, the other "Victory and Freedom JR 1825" topped by a decorative panel of masonic symbols. The larger portion of the horn is decorated with a large sun-face, a crescent moon, a hunter and his dog, a deer, a bear and a panther, and a tree with an owl perched in its limbs while a dog climbs upward. An ocean scene encircles the horn at its plug end, featuring a sailing ship and two fish. A spread-winged eagle completes the scene. Purchased by the consignor at an Indiana auction.<p>Great warm, patina, one tiny worm hole, else fine.
