Exceptional typed letter signed by Franklin Roosevelt from 1930, discussing communism directly as well as the concentration of power in the hands of private interests. Lot also includes an additional letter by Eleanor Roosevelt. Franklin Roosevelt writes as Governor of New York on Executive Mansion letterhead to U.S. Congressman William I. Sirovich. Dated 14 May 1930, letter reads in part ''...there will be a gain throughout our country of communistic thought unless we can keep Democracy up to its old ideals and its original purposes...we face in this country not only the danger of communism but the equal danger of the concentration of all power, economic and political, in the hands of what the ancient Greeks would have called an oligarchy...[signed] Franklin D. Roosevelt''. Letter measures 6.5'' x 8.5'' with a strong black ink signature. Framed with a typed letter signed by Eleanor Roosevelt, dated 10 February 1949 upon her personal letterhead. Eleanor writes while working in New York City as U.S. delegate to the United Nations, in part, ''...I cannot give permission, such as you request, for commercial purposes...'' Measures 5.5'' x 6.5'', framed to an overall size of 29.5'' x 15.25''. Light toning, foxing and wear to both letters, overall in very good condition.
