Exceptional, Factory Cased, Colt Model 1862 Police Revolver

First year production Colt Model 1862 Police revolver manufactured in 1861. The revolver is factory cased and complete with all of the accessories. The revolver barrel and fluted five-shot cylinder are blued and the loading lever, frame and hammer are color casehardened. The trigger and screw heads are niter blue. The brass trigger guard and back strap have a silver plated finish and the one-piece walnut grip has a semi-gloss piano finish. The barrel has a brass cone front sight and the hammer spur has border-less knurling. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA." in one line. "PAT. SEPT 10th 1850" is stamped in one cylinder flute. "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped in two lines on the left side of the frame. The full serial number "3403" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. "34/03" is stamped between the cylinder chambers. All of the visible serial numbers match. The pistol is complete with a factory mahogany case with red velvet lining. The case has five compartments and contains: (1) 100 count Eley Bros. cap tin with green paper label, (2) Eagle and Shield, fixed charger powder flask with "E.PlURIBUS RIBBON", lacquered body and fire blue spring, (3) straight leg blue double cavity .36 caliber bullet mold for Model 1862 Police revolver with "COLT'S/PATENT" on the sprue cutter and "36P" on the right mold block, (4) American Powder Company packet of five .36 caliber cartridges for Police Pistols and (5) blue L-shaped combination screwdriver/nipple wrench.

Excellent. The revolver retains 90% plus of the bright original Colt blue, casehardened and silver plated finish and exhibits minimal handling wear. The barrel has nearly all of the blue finish intact. The cylinder has some flaking on the high points but retains most of the blue finish. All of the cylinder safety pins are intact and the percussion nipples are free from flash pitting. The frame and hammer retain nearly all of the vivid case colors. The screw heads are in excellent condition and retain most of the fire blue finish. The silver plated finish on the trigger guard and back strap is tarnished but appears to have minimal wear. All of the serial numbers and markings are crisp. The grip is in nearly new condition and apart from a tiny chip on the bottom edge of the left side of the grip shows almost no handling wear. The action is tight and functions perfectly. The case exterior is in very good overall condition with some minor handling marks and some small chips and one minor split near the right hinge. The case interior is in good overall condition. The velvet lining is faded and has some discoloration and compression marks but no significant wear. The cap tin, flask, bullet mold, cartridge packet and screw-driver are all in very good-excellent condition. This is an exceptional example of a first year production Colt Model 1862 Police revolver with factory case and accessories.
