Exceptional Factory Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver
Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver manufactured in 1853. The revolver has a high polish blue barrel and five-shot cylinder, color casehardened loading lever, frame and hammer, silver-plated brass trigger guard and backstrap and one-piece, piano-finished, walnut grip. The revolver has a mahogany, American style, factory case with five compartments and red velvet lining. The case contains: (1) a brass, double cavity bullet mold for round balls and conical bullets marked "COLTS/PATENT" across the top, (2) powder flask with embossed eagle, rib and American shield, (3) packet of cartridges for revolving pocket pistols and (4) 110 cap tin of Hicks percussion caps. The revolver barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "{ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW-YORK CITY}". The left side of the frame is stamped "COLTS/PATENT" in two lines. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene and "COLT'S PATENT". The full serial number, "67549" is located on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder. The loading lever is stamped with the partial serial number "7549". All of the visible serial numbers match.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver shows minimal firing wear and retains 95% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish on the barrel and cylinder. Nearly all of the Stagecoach Holdup scene is intact. The cylinder has only very minor firing wear. All of the safety pins are intact. The loading lever frame and hammer have 95% or more of the correct original dove-gray casehardened finish with strong case colors. The silver-plated finish on the trigger guard and backstrap is tarnished but has only very minor edge wear. The grip is in excellent condition with nearly all of the high gloss piano finish; wear is limited to some very minor handling marks. The trigger and screw heads have generous amounts of the original niter blue finish. The action is crisp and functions well. The case exterior is in fine condition with some very minor handling and storage marks. The velvet lining has faded to a yellow brown; the bottom of the case shows compression marks from the revolver cylinder and butt. Several of the partitions have been re-glued and one is broken. The brass bullet mold is in excellent condition with minimal wear. The non-Colt powder flask is in excellent condition. The flask body has 98% or more of the brown lacquer finish and is free from dents or handling marks. The top of the flask and charger retains 90% of the gilt finish and the spring has more than 90% of the niter blue finish. The cap tin is in very good condition with about 75% of the plated finish and 40-50 percussion caps. The cartridge packet appears to have been opened and has been re-sealed in plastic. This is an exceptional example of an early production Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver in excellent condition with factory case and accessories.
