Exceptional Factory "A" Engraved Wilbur A. Glahn First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Ivory Grips

Factory engraved Colt Single Action Army Revolver manufactured in 1929. The revolver is decorated with Colt Grade A scroll engraving executed by Master Engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. The understated and superbly executed scroll work is present on the barrel, ejector housing, frame, cylinder chambers, trigger guard and back strap. Blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame and hammer are casehardened. The revolver is fitted with two piece factory ivory grips and German silver Colt medallions. The top of the barrel has the one line address "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." The left side of the revolver barrel is marked with the caliber "45 Colt". The left side of the frame has the Colt two line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The assembly mark "A'' and the Colt "VP/Triangle" proofmark are stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. The matching serial number is stamped on the underside of the frame and right side of the grip straps under the grip and the matching assembly number is marked in the right rear of the frame and on loading gate.

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% plus of the original blue and casehardened finish. The barrel has nearly all of the original blue with only some very minor scattered edge wear. The cylinder has some very minor wear on the forward edge. 99% plus of the blue finish is present on the trigger guard and front grip strap. The blue finish on the back strap is beginning to thin slightly. At least 98% of the brilliant casehardened finish is present on the frame, hammer and loading gate. The trigger and frame screws have most of the brilliant niter blue finish and remain in excellent condition. The grips have aged to a nice mellow patina and remain excellent with a few minor age cracks on the bottoms. This is a magnificent example of a post-WWI Colt Single Action Army Revolver with factory ivory grips and flawlessly executed Colt Grade. "A" engraving by Master Engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. Writer has seen only a few of these "A" engraved pre-war Colt Single Action Army revolvers.
