Exceptional Experimental Nazi Steyr Serial Number 2 G42 ST Bolt Action Sheet Metal Carbine
This truly unique and extraordinary experimental Steyr carbine is manufactured using a combination of milled and stamped sheet metal parts, with the bolt, barrel and barrel extension machined and the receiver, rear sight, trigger guard, barrel band, recoil bolt and trigger. It was considered as a replacement for the G33/40 carbine, which was fully machined and more expensive, and is the only known example on the market. The top of the receiver ring is marked "G42 (St)" over the Steyr logo. The left side of the receiver and the top of the bolt dust cover are marked with the number "2". The safety is mounted on the rear of the bolt assembly. Integral 5 round magazine. The front sight is a hooded ramp blade and the rear sight is a unique one piece, spring loaded, mounted on a rail which allows the sight to be moved forward and backwards. There is a small peg on the rail and holes along the center of the sight that the sight is locked into at the desired range. The sight is graduated to 1,000 meters and the left side of the receiver has graduating marks which can be lined up with a "pointer" mounted on the sight. The front barrel band has a hollow 2" extension that houses the cleaning rod and is grooved and notched on the underside, probably intended for a bayonet. The carbine is mounted with a one piece laminated pistol grip stock with a curved, cupped buttplate and brown leather sling.
