Exceptional Engraved Ballard Rigby Number 6 1/2 Off-Hand Rifle, Pictured in More Single Shot Rifles
This is a fantastic example of very scarce Marlin-Ballard single shot target rifle with the deluxe Rigby 6 1/2 style pistol grip action with full engraving and double set triggers. This exact rifle is pictured in the book "More Single Shot Rifles" by James Grant on page 11, with description on page 12. A globe front sight is mounted on the barrel, with set of three engraved Rigby flat panels on the breech and a elevation adjustable peep sight mounted on top of the receiver. This rifle has the No. 6 1/2 Rigby action with factory engraving covering 90% of the surface. On each side is a well executed large game scene, with the left side depicting a pair of fleeing elk, one reeling from a shot delivered by a hunter in the wooded background, and the right showing four running bison, two dead center with one partial obscured on either side of the scene. Both scenes are surrounded by attractive punch-dot backed scrollwork, with a forward-pointing arrow on top and the Marlin address on the left side ahead of the breechblock. Matching numbers present on the frame, forearm and barrel. Fitted with double set triggers and a Pacific-style ring lever/ trigger guard. Extra fancy grain checkered straight grip Circassian walnut stock, with a horn insert Schnabel tip on the forearm, raised cheekpiece and a Swiss-type brass buttplate.
