Manufacturer: Nagoya Model: Type 2
This is an exceptional example of a WWII Japanese Type 2 Paratrooper rifle. These rifles were based on the Type 99 series rifle and were manufactured at the Toriimatsu factory under control of the Nagoya Arsenal. The top of the receiver has the Chrysanthemum (which is visible, but lightly struck twice and slightly scratched) over the Kana markings for type "2/Rifle". The left receiver side wall is stamped with serial number (2800) along with the Nagoya arsenal factory mark. The bolt handle and bayonet lug are marked with the matching partial serial number "800". Both halves of the take down mechanism (breech and receiver) and the retaining pin have the matching assembly number, "630". Inverted "v" front sight with guards and later production tangent peep rear sight graduated from 400-1,500 meters with the anti-aircraft wings. The front barrel band is the two screw model and the rear is the later plain slotted pattern. It has the correct plum shaped bolt handle. Mounted with the late war two-piece hardwood stock with a one piece handguard. The stock has the correct side mounted sling swivels with the drain hole in front of the trigger guard and a cupped steel buttplate.
BBL: 26 inch round
Stock: hardwood
Gauge: 7.7 Japanese
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 2800
Condition:
Excellent. The rifle retains 90% of the original arsenal blue finish with wear on the bolt body from normal cycling of the action. The wood is very fine overall with some very heavy pressure dents and gouges on the left side of the stock below the receiver and the buttstock, otherwise there are a few minor pressure dents and dings. Unless noted above the markings are clear. The action is fine.
