Exceptional Early Pre-War S Code Krieghoff Luger Pistol with One Matching Magazine, and Luftwaffe
This is an exceptional example of a very early Krieghoff "S" code WWII German Luger as manufactured in limited quantities for the Luftwaffe. This Luger is marked with the "S-Code" over the chamber which was the secret wartime code indicating manufacture in 1936. The pistol has a very low serial number "208" with the early features such as the early variation marked toggle (B-2 Die) that has only the "H & K" marked on each side of the Krieghoff Anchor with only the word "SUHL", marked below that. The points of the anchor nearly touch the letter "K" and the word "SUHL" slightly slants to the right with the flat bottom on the letter "U". It has the typical military style serial number placement with the full serial number on the front frame, the left side of the receiver, with the last two digits on the side plate, rear toggle assembly, breech-bolt, trigger and take down lever, with their appropriate Luftwaffe proof on the various parts. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the early "LWaA" 1st -stage 1 early Luftwaffe acceptance proof followed by the Luftwaffe test proof and small "eagle/2" proof. The underside of the barrel is marked only with the bore diameter and the early Eagle "Eagle/2" acceptance proof. The pistol is fitted with a slightly later pattern of original Krieghoff brown checkered plastic grips as manufactured by the Ritzmann firm. These grips are identified by their small fine checkered pattern with the smooth border around the edge of each grip panel. The backside of each grip panel has the correct mold numbers that consist of a small circled "HRS" for the Herman Ritzmann & Sohne company and number "8964" impressed into the plastic. The pistol is complete with two early pattern Krieghoff magazines that have the nickel plated magazine body with a cast aluminum base. One is correctly matching to the pistol and it carries the full serial number "208" with a small "LWaA2" proof and the other one is numbered "2342" with the same "LWaA2" proof. These lugers have the distinctive Krieghoff high polish blue finish with the straw colored small parts. This luger is complete with an early unmarked commercial military style black holster that has a single small "LWaA2" proof on the inside of the holster along with a correct "LWaA2" proofed loading/take down tool. There were only about 4,000 "S" code Luger produced during this year of manufacture.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw
Grips: brown plastic checkered
Serial Number: 208
Condition: Excellent with 99% of the bright, totally original blue finish overall with just some minor edge and high spot wear overall with some slight brown speckling just starting on the back strap. The markings are clear and sharp. The small parts retain 95% of their vivid original straw colors. The grips are also in excellent condition with just some minor handling marks with no cracks, chips or damage. Although they may be a later pair of production grips than typically used for this serial number range of luger, they are still an all original set of fairly rare Ritzmann grips that are used only on Krieghoff lugers. The holster is also in excellent condition with nice dark black color with only very minor surface scuffing in a couple of places with minor wear on the and age cracking on the hold-down strap. The stitching is tight and still shows the original white color throughout. A spectacular example of an early scarce "S" Krieghoff rig.
