this is an exceptional example of a scarce Winchester Model 1894 Deluxe Extra Lightweight Takedown Sporting Rifle with Cody Firearms Museum letter. The letter describes the rifle features as: "30 Caliber, 22 inch round barrel, Plain trigger, Checkered stock with pistol grip, Lyman front and rear sights, 3/4 Magazine, Takedown, Extra light, Oil finish", and "Shotgun butt rubber". The letter states that this rifle was shipped from Winchester on August 15, 1903. The rifle has a blued barrel, magazine, forearm cap and receiver. The hammer and lever are color casehardened. The forearm and pistol grip stock are fancy grain burl walnut with Style H checkering and oiled 'piano' finish. The stock has a hard rubber pistol grip cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS" and a black checkered hard rubber buttplate with the round Winchester Repeating Arms logo in the center. The round tapered, lightweight, barrel has a special order Lyman 37W front sight with ivory bead and a Winchester Express rear sight with three folding leafs with platinum sighting lines. A Lyman folding combination sight is mounted on the receiver tang. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" is roll stamped in two lines on the left side of the barrel below the rear sight. The caliber designation, "30 W.F.C." is roll-stamped on the top of the barrel in front of the receiver. The serial number, "137965" is stamped across the bottom of the receiver in front of the lever. The assembly number, "15282" is stamped on the left side of the lower tang beneath the stock and in the upper tang channel of the stock. "X" followed by "HR" is stamped on the left side of the lower tang next to the assembly number. The combination of a deluxe, takedown, extra lightweight Model 1894 rifle with 3/4 magazine and Express rear sight is very rare.
