This is one of the finest original examples of a DWM Model 1900 'American Eagle' Test Trial Luger pistols purchased by the U.S. Ordnance Department for trials with the U.S. Cavalry in August 1901. This scarce pistol serial number "6795" falls well within the known U.S. Test serial range of 6100-7099, and is complete with the rare russet, full flap holster, manufactured by the Rock Island Arsenal. The pistol has a deep, rust blue finish on the barrel, receiver, frame, and toggle. The grip screws, front sight blade, sear bar spring, and connecting pins are fiery niter blue. The extractor, toggle link, ejector, lock bolt, trigger, magazine release, and thumb safety lever have a 'straw' finish. The grips are finely checkered European walnut. The magazine has the correct nickel plated body with wooden base. The receiver has the Great Seal of the United States on the chamber. The script "DWM" monogram is located on the front toggle link. Small bursting bomb DWM inspector's stamps are located in front of the barrel lug and in the frame well. An "F" inspection mark is located on the left side of the barrel lug and a "C" is stamped on the right side of the lug. The full serial number "6795" is located in the bottom of the barrel and in front of the receiver. The last two digits of the serial number, "95", are stamped on the right side of the take down lever, the left side of the trigger, the grip safety, the inside of both grips, the bottom of the barrel lug, the side plate, the breechblock, and both toggle links. All of the serial numbers match. The full flap russet leather holster has "US" embossed in an oval on the center of the flap and a faint three-letter inspector's stamp on the bottom on the flap. The rear of the holster flap is marked "ROCK ISLAND/ ARSENAL" in two lines above the final inspector's initials "E.H.S."
