Introduced as a production line gun in 1931 and moved to the Custom Shop in 1960, the Model 21 was one of the company's finest effort ,with regard, to quality, reliability and strength, hand built for maximum performance and aesthetic qualities. This shotgun is a Duck Gun manufactured from 1940 to 1952, and features double brass bead front and ivory bead sights on the solid concave matte rib. 2 3/4" & 3" chambers, chokes marked "MOD" and "IMP CYL" with ejectors. The left rear barrel is marked "MODEL 21- WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK - 12 GAUGE 2 3/4 & 3 IN.". The barrels are Winchester Proof Steel marked with the Winchester oval proof on each flat, the number "1" and the matching serial number. The water table is marked with the number "1", Winchester oval proof and "MADE IN U.S.A. MODEL 21 / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO / NEW HAVEN, CONN.". The action, trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware are very nicely relief floral scroll engraved with an oval panel on each side of a wooded marsh scene with a gold inlaid duck. The trigger guard plate has a curled paper design with a gold inlaid dogs head among reeds, with gold inlaid "DUCK" below. Each panel is signed "MS". Blue barrels, gold washed single trigger with selector and casehardened remaining parts, tang mounted manual safety and mounted with 3X fancy, checkered walnut beaver tail forearm and pistol grip stock with a solid leather wrapped recoil pad. Condition: Very fine as custom embellished. The barrels retain 99% custom blue finish with only the slightest handling/storage marks. The water table, breech face and inside surfaces of the forearm hardware retain almost all of the bright original case colors, while the balance has faded to an attractive silver gray. The wood is excellent retaining 99% varnish and very crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear, and the engraving remains sharp. Mechanically excellent.
