Estimate: $22500 - 27500
This is an excellent example of a Colt Single Action Army Flattop Target Model revolver with Colt factory letter addressed to R.H. Vanyek (original owner of the Pinkerton Colt SAA) states this revolver was shipped to the Colt London Agency on June 20, 1893. The letter describes the revolver as caliber .450 with 7 1 /2 inch barrel, blue finish and target frame. The revolver has the distinctive flat frame top and sides with dove-tail mounted rear sight. The block-mounted front sight is adjustable and has a removable blued steel blade. The revolver has a full blue finish. The top of the hammer, rear sight, trigger and screws are niter blue. The sides of the hammer are bright. The revolver has two-piece, black, checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval at the top of each grip. The barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." in one line. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: "450 ELEY". London "Crown/GP" and "Crown/V" proof and inspection marks are stamped on the underside of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt 'Two-Line/Three-Date' patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The assembly number, "525" is stamped on the loading gate. London proof and view marks are stamped alternately in each chamber flute. An "O" Colt inspection mark is stamped in the hammer slot. The full serial number, "152116" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and hammer. Colt manufactured an estimated total of 925 Single Action Flattop Target Model revolvers; 84 of these revolvers were chambered for the .450 Eley cartridge.
