Exceptional Colt Model 1905 Military Semi-Automatic Pistol
Colt Model 1905 Automatic pistol manufactured in 1909. The pistol has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish with casehardened spur hammer and full-blue, 7-shot, magazine. The trigger, rear sight, ejector, stock screws and other small parts have a fiery, niter blue finish. The checkered walnut stocks have small diamonds around the brass ferrules with a varnished finish. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines. The left side of the slide is marked with the second style address: "PATENTED/APR.20.1897.SEPT.9.1902.DEC.19.1905." in two unequal lines followed by "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A." in two lines. The encircled Rampant Colt trademark is stamped behind the slide serrations. The left side of the frame is stamped with the serial number, "3595" and the left side of the trigger guard bow is marked with the Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark and a "6" assembler's mark. This pistol is one of the first examples manufactured with the spur hammer introduced around serial number 3600. Produced in limited numbers (6100) between 1905 and 1911, the Model 1905 Automatic pistol is historically significant as a direct predecessor to the Colt Model 1911 pistol.
