Exceptional Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with Ivory Grips and Rare Hand Engraved Factory Sam Colt Presentation Barrel Address and Colt's Patent Marking

This Colt Model 1849 Pocket Model revolver was manufactured in 1859. The revolver has the rarely encountered marking "Saml Colt" hand engraved in Old English letters on the top of the barrel and "COLT'S/PATENT" hand engraved in large block letters on the left side of the frame. Colt expert R. L. Wilson notes in "THE BOOK OF COLT FIREARMS" that although the hand engraved "Saml Colt" and "COLT'S/PATENT" markings were standard on factory engraved Model 1849 Pocket revolvers between 1852-1860, the hand engraved markings are also occasionally found on non-engraved revolvers. In addition to the rare hand-engraved markings the revolver features a silver plated barrel, loading lever, frame and trigger guard. The back strap is silver plated. The cylinder and hammer are gold plated. Fitted with a smooth one-piece factory ivory grip. The five-shot cylinder is roll engraved with the Stagecoach Hold-up scene and "COLTS PATENT". The full serial number "159302" is stamped on the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. The partial serial number "9302" is stamped on the loading lever and cylinder arbor pin. "95302" is stamped on the bottom of the wedge. All of the visible serial numbers match.

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% of the original silver plated finish on the barrel, loading lever, frame, trigger guard and back strap. Finish wear on the plated components is limited to some very minor flaking on the edges of the barrel, the back strap and the grip strap. The engraved markings on the barrel and frame are crisp. The cylinder and hammer have been re-plated. The gold plating on the cylinder has moderate flaking and some light "blistering" is visible on the plated finish on the cylinder and hammer. The cylinder retains all of the stagecoach hold-up scene. The attractive ivory grip is in excellent condition. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is an extraordinary example of a rare Model 1849 Pocket revolver with hand engraved barrel and frame markings, ivory grip and unusual gold and silver plated finish.
