Exceptional Colt London Agency Model 1877 (Lightning) Double-Action Ejectorless Revolver with Factor
This is an exceptional example of a Colt Model 1877 DA storekeeper revolver with Colt factory letter. The letter states that this revolver was shipped the Colt London Agency at 14 Pall Mall, London, England on March 11, 1889. The letter lists the caliber as ".38/c", the barrel length as "3 1/2" and the finish as "Blue". The revolver has the Colt high polish, commercial blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap. The frame and loading gate are color casehardened. The screws, ejector pin, trigger and hammer have a fiery, niter blue, finish. The sides of the hammer are polished bright. The two-piece, black, hard rubber, bird's head grips are checkered and have the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval at the top. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the barrel is acid-etched panel marked: "COLT D.A. 38". The underside of the barrel is stamped with the caliber designation "38". The Colt, 'three-date/three-line' patent markings are stamped on the left side of the frame. The serial number, "66845" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. The rear face of the cylinder is numbered "812" and the loading gate is marked with the assembly number "814". British "Crown/V" and "Crown/P" proof and inspection marks are stamped in each of the six cylinder flutes and on the underside of the barrel.
BBL: 3 1/2 inch
Stock:
Gauge: 38 long Colt
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: black hard rubber
Serial Number: 66845

Excellent plus. The revolver retains approximately 98% plus of the bright original blue and casehardened finish. The high polish blue finish shows only very minor storage wear on some contact points. The frame and loading gate have more than 98% of the original casehardened finish with vivid colors. The ejector pin, hammer, trigger and screws have nearly all of the fiery niter blue finish. The hard rubber stocks have a very attractive plum patina and are in near mint condition with perfect checkering and Rampant Colt markings. The delicate, acid-etched barrel panel is crisp and the markings on the barrel and frame are sharp. The bore is bright. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is an exceptional example of a British proofed, London Agency Colt Lighting DA Revolver in exceptional condition. It would be very difficult to improve on the condition of this outstanding revolver.
