The Song dynasty is considered a golden age of inventions and industrial development. During this period the steel industry in particular was flourishing. Large foundries produced huge amounts of iron and steel. Consequently, this material also found its use in the art and crafts promoting the creation of exceptional Buddhist statues. To this day, preserved pieces such as the present Buddha head are rare, mostly of museum quality and thus highly sought after by collectors.

Condition: The head is in good condition with wear consistent with age. The top of the head shows two casting holes (diameter approx. 2 cm). The height without stand is 17.5 cm.
