Exceptional Cased Webley Royal Irish Constabulary Double Action Revolver with Rare Silver & Fletcher Expert Patent Ejector and Safety System

This is an excellent example of a rare Webley Irish Constable revolver. The top of the barrel is marked "SILVER & FLETCHER'S PATENT 'THE EXPERT'" and the top strap is marked "S.W. SILVER & Co/29 OLD BOND ST & 67 CORNHILL LONDON". The left side of the barrel has two British proofs and the caliber marking (450) is marked on the upper left front of the frame. British proofs are also present on the cylinder flutes and right upper side of frame is marked "316". The serial number is stamped on the lower left side of the frame. Fitted with a checkered one-piece walnut grip and a lanyard ring on the butt. The upside down hammer "spur" is the safety and rotating counter clockwise withdraws the firing pin. As the cylinder rotates by the pull of the trigger, the hook type ejector at the top of the frame slides under the rim of the cartridge and when the hammer falls, it hits the left end causing the cartridge to pivot, throwing the shell out of the cylinder. The left side of the hammer is marked "PATENT". Dowell estimates that only a few hundred were made with the high number known being 208 (see "The Webley Story", page 677). Complete with a partitioned wooden case with a round brass inset disk on the lid inscribed "MS" and lined with blue fabric. One compartment has a lid with an ivory pull, there is another compartment containing a screwdriver and cleaning brush and there is an 18 round bullet block.

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% plus original nickel finish with some minor finish loss and minor pitting on the upper and lower edges of the frame on both sides ahead of the cylinder. There is a small amount of minor frosting and a few light scratches and handling marks. The grip is also excellent with a couple of minor pressure dents and handling marks, with crisp checkering. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent. The case is very fine with a slightly warped lid, a few minor dings and scratches on the exterior and some very minor contact wear on the lining. A very unique and rare revolver.
