Exceptional Captured Gestapo, SS Documented, Walther Model PP Pistol with Original Box and Accessories

This is an exceptional example of Walther Model PP pistol that was found new in the box and taken as a war trophy in mid 1945. The pistol is accompanied by a hand written letter from Col. Elbert M. Sleeker, U.S. Army (Ret.) Assistant Chief of Staff G-4 of the 16th Armored Division. The letter states that in the last part of April 1945 and the first few days of May the 16th Armored Division occupied Nuremburg, Germany. The Germans had constructed a labyrinth of tunnels and underground chambers beneath the city. One of the Division Ordnance Officers was exploring the tunnels and went into a chamber that had formerly been used by the Gestapo. In the chamber he found a cabinet containing several new Walther 7.65 mm pistols in their original boxes. The pistols were confiscated as enemy weapons and trophies of war. Some of the pistols were given to senior officers in Division Headquarters and Col. Sleeker was given this pistol, serial number 206557P. Col. Sleeker ends the letter by saying "The pistol has been in my possession since that time as a souvenir and never has been fired." Col. Sleeker kept this pistol and accessories until he sold it to an individual in 1992. The pistol is listed by serial number in the book "SS Walther PP/PPK Identification & Documents" by Steven Stepan on page 190 as having been purchased through the SS. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther banner followed by the two line address/caliber designation and "Mod. PP". The serial number is marked on the right side of the frame behind the trigger and a commercial "eagle/N" proof is marked on the right side of the barrel muzzle and chamber, and on the slide below the ejection port. The inside of the slide is marked with a very light hand marked "557". The pistol has a high polish commercial blue finish. Fitted with black plastic checkered grips with the Walther Banner at the top. The magazine in the pistol has a dull blue finish with black plastic finger extension. The spare magazine has the same finish with a steel floor plate. Both magazines are marked with the Walther Banner over "PP 7.65 mm" on the lower left side. Complete with the original "woodgrain" box. The lid is decorated with the gold embossed marking "PP" a Mod. PP pistol and the Walther Banner. A green and white label on the lower right corner of the lid is marked: a vertical Walther banner and "Autom. Pistole/Mod.PP/Cal. 7.65". And the pistol serial number, "206542P" is stamped on the end of the label. The interior of the box retains most of the cardboard partition to separate the pistol from the accessories. The cleaning rod is in the original wrapper. The aluminum cleaning tin has the Walther Banner embossed on the lid and contains a glass oil bottle, a small bag of cleaning material and a replacement yellow cleaning cloth. Also included is an instruction manual in German and a 25 round box of 7.65 mm cartridges manufactured by "Sellier & Bellot" containing 16 rounds of the original ammunition.
