Exceptional Boxed Winchester Model 62A 22 Short Slide Action Rifle

Manufactured in 1953. This is an exceptional example of a Model 62A Gallery Rifle chambered for .22 Short only, with a triangular feed cut in the magazine tube. It has dovetail front and adjustable rear sights. The letter "A" behind the Model number occurred around serial number 98,000 and was due to a change in the breech bolt mechanism resulting in a name change from Model 62 to Model 62A. The left side of the barrel is marked "MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN-/U.S. AMERICA" followed by "WINCHESTER/TRADE MARK" and "-MODEL 62A-/-22 SHORT". The top of the receiver and barrel are marked with the Winchester oval proof at the breech. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver and on the lower tang. Dovetailed blade front sight with a silver bead, adjustable rear sporting sight, all blue finish and mounted with a 17 grooved walnut forearm and smooth straight grip stock with a plastic checkered Winchester buttplate. Comes with the original two-piece box numbered to the gun, manual, "The 10 Commandments of Safety" and a NRA Ranger "How to Win a Ranger Shooting Emblem" card.

Near new in box with only the slightest handling/storage marks. There are two minor runs in the varnish on the stock wrist, which appear to have come from the factory. The rifle appears to have not ever been put together. The box is fine with some tape residue on the outside and a hole worn through the side of the box from the hammer.
