Excellent original under hammer 20 ga. by Gosset of Paris circa 1830-1840. Gosset worked with Boulet at Versailles during the Napoleonic era and is credited with the invention of this type under hammer system. The gun shows a very fancy full gold signature which is 7” in length with fancy letters nearly ¼” in height on top rib. Gossets name is also gold inlaid in a round cartouche at the tang with the muzzle and breech also inlaid with lines and factory decorations. Also there is a large oval at forend inlaid in multi-color gold with initials B.A. probably the original owner. The mounts, forend and tang are fancily engraved with scrolls, urns and game scenes. The gun is richly stocked in de-luxe burl walnut of a light color and magnificently carved in high relief showing a portrait of Baccus surrounded by grapes with scalloping at wrist. The guns is in original near fine condition with just beginning slight erosion and pin-prick pitting on barrels, some slight marks on stock and just minimal aging an original ramrod is retained. The gun measures 44” overall with 28” barrels. Est. $14,000-$28,000
