Excellent and Rare WWII Nazi K98 Arsenal/Factory Cutaway Rifle Serial Number 27
This is an excellent example of a factory or arsenal cutaway K98 service rifle. These were a standard K98 that had been cutaway in numerous areas to show the internal functioning and interfacing of the various parts during actual operation. Obviously these were intended as training aids for either basic training or armorers. This specific rifle does not show any of the typical proof and receiver markings other than a "42" on the lower rear edge of the receiver ring, suggesting manufacture in 1942 and "MOD 98" on the receiver side wall. There is a small "Eagle/214" Waffenamt proof on the top rear section of the barrel, which may indicate manufacture at the Berlin-Lubecker Machinefabriken-Werkes at Lubeck (wartime code of duv) and a small serial number "27" on the front edge of the trigger guard, the front side of the bolt handle and the striker. The bolt assembly is completely void of any firing or acceptance proof marks which would be correct for an original factory cutaway rifle. As noted the rifle has been cutaway in all of the major functioning areas of the rifle to include; the firing pin and spring assembly of the bolt, the cocking piece, sear and striker engagements, the complete receiver ring area showing the lug engagements, the chamber area of the barrel, the underside of the rear sight assembly, and the side of the box magazine. The left side of the stock and hand guard assembly have also been correctly cutaway to show the various functional areas of the stock and recoil lug engagements. This rifle is complete with an original cleaning rod and push-on folding muzzle cover.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 27
Condition: Excellent overall with 98% of the original wartime blue finish. With just a very small area on both the sides of the barrel bands that have a small amount of discoloration/rust from improper storage. Both of these areas can be dramatically improved with some light oiling. The stock and handguard are both original to the rifle, however the right side of the stock has been cracked at some time due to the overall weakening from the cut out areas. Again, this area could be easily repaired and strengthened with a minor stock repair. Just an exceptional all original and unaltered WWII K98 cutaway service rifle.
