Excellent and Rare Nazi WWII Luftwaffe Model 30 Survival Drilling with Original Case and Accessories
This is an example of a very desirable J. P Sauer & Son M30 Luftwaffe Survival Drilling that was manufactured in 1942. This high quality, commercial, J. P. Sauer drilling was issued to Luftwaffe air crews in North Africa and the Mediterranean as a survival weapon The combination of 12 gauge rifled slugs and the potent 9.3X74 rifle cartridge were capable of stopping most African game. The drilling has side-by-side 12 gauge shotgun barrels and a 9.3X74 under rifle barrel with dual triggers and barrel selector on the left stock flat. The barrels have a commercial blue finish with a matted rib, a gold dot front sight and a 100 meter rifle rear sight which automatically elevates when the rifle barrel is selected. Sling swivels are fitted to the rifle barrel and stock. The receiver, trigger guard and stock furniture have a casehardened finish with vivid case colors. The European walnut stock and forearm have a low-luster varnish finish with fine checkering on the pistol grip and forearm. The stock has an oval cheekpiece and a black plastic seriated buttplate with the round Sauer "SS" monogram in the center. The receiver and trigger guard bottom are decorated with subtle scroll engraving. The bottom of the receiver is engraved with the Sauer "SS" monogram and the bottom of the barrel lug is engraved with the J.P. Sauer trademark. The legend "J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL" is roll stamped on both sides of the receiver and on the chambers of each shotgun barrel. The right side of the stock and the right barrel chamber are boldly stamped with the Luftwaffe Eagle and Swastika insignia. The bottom of the barrel lug is stamped with the Luftwaffe 'Stick Eagle/2' acceptance mark. 'Eagle/N' wartime proof marks are stamped on the chambers of both shotgun barrels, the rifle barrel and the top of the right receiver rail. The serial number, "337601" is stamped on the bottom of the rifle barrel, the top of the left receiver rail and on the rear of the trigger guard finial. The inside of the forearm is stamped with the partial serial number "7601". All of the serial numbers match. The drilling is complete with the original aluminum case with leather handle. The case has the original dark gray paint and the lid is stenciled: "Drilling M 30/mit Munition u. Zubehor" in two lines. The case interior is finished in natural aluminum with felt and wood partitions. The contents of the case are stenciled on the inside of the lid. The case contains the following items: (1) original manual entitled "Drilling M.30" dated "Ausgabe Juni 1941", (2) J. Pl Sauer pattern/specification sheet serial numbered to the drilling and dated "8 April 1942", (3) rare russet leather sling with keepers and (4) original black cardboard carton with partition for cleaning equipment that contains: three-piece wooden cleaning rod with wooden handle and brass tip, two rifle bore brushes, glass oil bottle, fiber bore and chamber brushes, cloth rifle and shotgun bore swabs, and brass patch jag. Luftwaffe Field Marshal Herman Goering was an avid hunter and provided his air crews with the best possible equipment. The high quality, commercial, Sauer M. 30 Survival Drilling is possibly the highest quality small arm issued to troops of any of the WWII combatants.

Excellent. The drilling retains nearly 98% of the original 95% plus of the vivid blue and casehardened finish. The checkering on the stock and forearm are crisp. The large Luftwaffe Eagle/Swastika insignia on the barrel and stock are crisp. All of the engraving, factory legends, proof and inspection marks are sharp. The very fine stock and forearm retain much of the original factory oiled finish with only storage wear. The manual, test sheet, sling and cleaning equipment are in fine condition. There is a hole in the lid of the cardboard cleaning carton from 67 years of contact with the cleaning rod handle. The felt padding on the case interior is loose but intact. The case exterior has about 80% of the field gray paint and all of the black stenciled markings. "WALLACE" is scratched on the case lid. This is an excellent example of a scarce and very desirable M. 30 Luftwaffe Survival Drilling with all of the original accessories except the commercial rifle and shotgun cartridges issued with the weapon.
