This is an excellent example of an extremely rare early "No-Date" G41 semi-automatic rifle as manufactured by the Walther factory in late 1942 or early 1943. Documents provided by the consignor note that in early 1942 the SS Main operational Dept, issued a letter to the Chief of the Army Equipment, and Commander of Replacement Army equipment office, regarding the supplying of approximately 3,000 G41 rifles, and that they be furnished directly to or sold to the "SS-Waffenamt Office" for their immediate use. It is thought by noted experts in the field that this early G-41 is indeed one of the SS contract pieces. The fact that there is no Walther AC code or final Wehnmacht test firing eagle on the rifle, but just the eagle nitro proof is typical of short run SS produced rifles (especially SS scoped rifles, which have been observed with Bunq, crown N, or eagle N test proofs). If produced in the Reich, it was mandatory that an inspector had to test fire proof a weapon. Lastly, this rifle has an unmarked black sling, thought by some to be strictly SS and it is no coincidence that the SS bnz 98k in this sale has an identical black sling. The rifle itself is marked on the left side of the receiver with only "G. 41/1039" with no other Walther factory acceptance proofs or factory markings on the receiver any where. The only other interesting feature on this rifle is that the very left rear corner/edge of the receiver is stamped with a single "Eagle/N" commercial proof. This model obviously has all the early type one parts, such as the fully machined receiver, bolt and bolt cover that action cover, with the correct stamped barrel bands, trigger guard assembly and butt plate. The bolt cover is stamped with the same serial number "1039" with a single Walther "Eagle/359" inspection proof as well as most of the various other major parts or assemblies are stamped with only a single Walther factory "Eagle/359" inspection proof, and the serial number. The barrel bands are proofed but correctly unserial numbered and there are no Heers/Waffenamt proof marks on the stock. This rifle is complete with a late production black, cross-hatched unmarked leather sling, the original cleaning rod and front sight cover. These rifles have an all salt blued metal finish with the one-piece walnut stock, with the dark-red plastic type hand guard. The rifle is complete with an original go/no go gauge.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 8 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 1039

The stock and hand guard are also both in excellent condition with nice clear sharp markings, and proof marks with some scattered minor storage marks overall. The rifle has all visible matching numbers. Writer cannot recall ever auctioning this fine of a G41 rifle. A superb example of a very scarce and very rare early "No-Date" G41 SS-type contract rifle, with documentation.
