Excellent and Desirable Winchester Model 1897 Solid Frame Slide Action Trench Shotgun

This is an excellent example of a Winchester Model 1897 Solid Frame Trench Shotgun that was manufactured in 1919. These trench shotguns were so effective during World War I that the German government tried to have them outlawed from combat. This example has the correct 6 rows by 29 holes vented heat shield/bayonet lug mounted to the barrel. The heat shield is marked "PAT.APPL.FOR" on the right side. The action bar is stamped "MODEL 1897/--WINCHESTER--/TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S.PAT.OFF.". There is a single steel bead sight on the heat shield, the barrel is choked cylinder and has a 2 3/4 inch chamber. The barrel has the standard markings. Mounted on a round walnut forearm with 18 grooves. The smooth walnut pistol grip stock has a checkered plastic buttplate with the length of pull being 14 inches. Comes with a Remington manufactured Model 1917 bayonet and green leather scabbard.

Excellent, 95% plus of the original blue finish remains with some cycling and minor high edge wear along with some flaking on the left side and bottom of the receiver. The wood is also excellent with some scattered dings. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet and scabbard are fine. Another example such as this will be hard to find!
