Excellent World War I Production U.S. Winchester Model 1917 Bolt Action Rifle

This is an exceptional example of an original unaltered WWI Winchester Model 1917 bolt action rifle. These 1917 rifles were the primary U.S. Army and USMC service rifle used throughout WWI with many rebuilt rifle issued during the early days of WWII, making original unaltered examples very scarce. The top of the receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL OF 1917/WINCHESTER/403903". The muzzle end of the barrel is correctly stamped with the Winchester markings of "W/US Ordnance Bomb proof/8-18". The left receiver rail is stamped with the ordnance bomb proof with a double "Eagle Head" proof on top of the receiver rail. It has the correct Winchester bolt that is marked on the underside of the handle, "W/NS". The various components all have a deep, blue/black finish. Fitted with a two piece semi-pistol grip walnut stock and handguard with a stacking swivel and bayonet lug on the front band, "Eagle Head/526" proofs are stamped on the underside ahead of the floor plate. It has the standard sling swivels and steel buttplate with trap door for the cleaning kit, (kit not included).

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blued finish overall with light wear on the edges and high spots with more wear and blue loss on the bolt handle from cycling the action. The stock and handguards are both in excellent condition with a nice medium brown color overall with minor handling marks and light pressure dents on the sides in some areas. Mechanically excellent. A very attractive U. S. WWI Winchester Model 1917 bolt action rifle.
