Excellent Westley Richards Bolt Action Sporting Rifle with Factory Letter

This is a nice example of a Westley Richards sporting rifle manufactured in 1910. The rifle is built on a classic standard length Mauser 98 action with the original trigger and safety. It is chambered in the 318 Accelerated Express caliber. The left side of the barrel is marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. LONDON.". The right rear of the barrel is marked with four British crown proofs, "318 EX" and "CORDITE 57 - 250 MAX". The left side of the front receiver ring is marked "LT 37892/WESTLEY RICHARDS/.318 ACCELERATED/EXPRESS" and the right side is marked with a "crown/BV" proof. The matte solid rib is equipped with a blade front sight with a folding globe, and rear sight with one fixed leaf, two folding leafs marked "200" and "300", and a folding ladder graduated to 11. There is a sling swivel eye mounted on the underside of the barrel. The receiver is equipped with a Lyman peep sight and the rifle is mounted with a nicely figured straight grain multi-point checkered walnut pistol grip stock with an ebony forend, teardrop flats, shadow line cheekpiece, checkered steel buttplate, sling swivel eye and silver initial oval. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, Mauser action with original trigger and safety, and that it was completed for export in June 1910.

Very fine. The rifle retains 97% original blue finish with some edge wear and a few minor dings. The bolt handle, bolt and extractor show some normal usage wear. The period refinished stock is very fine with a few minor dings, handling marks, a couple minor age cracks in the buttstock and crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
