Excellent WWII U.S. Army Contract M1911A1 Ithaca Pistol
This is an excellent example of an original US Army contract pistol as produced by the Ithaca Gun Company in mid to late 1943. The left side of the slide is marked "ITHACA GUN CO. INC. / ITHACA N.Y." and the top of the slide has a single "P" proof in front of the rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "FJA" for Frank J. Atwood, and a single "P" proof below the magazine catch. The right side of the frame has the small cross-cannon Ordnance proof behind the grip, with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial number with "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" towards the front end. It has the correct, wartime, High Standard blued barrel marked "HS" and "P" on the right and left sides of lugs respectively. The left front of the trigger guard bow is marked with a cross and the right side a "5". It has the serrated slide stop, thumb safety, narrow hammer spur, long grip safety and serrated, arched mainspring housing. The grips are also the correct wartime versions manufactured by the "Keyes-Fibre" company that have a single five pointed star with a "K" inside, a single mold number both located on the inside of the grips, along with the correct reinforcing ribs. The magazine is a all blued post war replacement that is marked "19200/ASSY. 5508694/MFR. 1M291" on the underside of the base plate.
