This is an example of a Mauser "Black Widow" Luger, so called due to its dark blue/black salt finish. The top of the chamber is dated "42" and the toggle is marked "byf", the war time code for the Mauser factory. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with a German firing proof and two "eagle / 135" proofs. The firing proof is marked on the right rear of the barrel and an "eagle / 135" on the left. The bottom of the barrel is marked with the matching serial number, minus the suffix. The front of the frame and left side of the barrel extension are marked with matching serial number (e suffix on the front of the frame), the left rear of the frame is marked "P.08" and the partial serial number "81" is marked on most of the small components. Fitted with black checkered plastic grips, stock lug on the back strap and has the correct blue "fxo", "P08" marked blue magazine with black plastic base. Complete with a leather flap holster stamped "bmd / 42 above the belt loops, "eagle/swastika/WaA640" proof between the loops and a large "P.08" behind the loops and extra blue "P08", "fxo" marked magazine with plastic base.
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm P
Finish: blue
Grips: plastic
Serial Number: 1581e
Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 95% plus original blue salt finish with some holster muzzle wear, minor flaking on the left side of the barrel, minor wear on the front of the frame rails, high points of the side plate and stock lug, and some thinning on the back strap. The grips are also excellent with only some light handling marks and sharp checkering. The markings are highlighted in white and remain clear. Mechanically excellent. The holster is very good with some moderate wear on one corner of the flap, scattered scuffs, minor age cracking and tight stitching.
