Excellent WWII British No. 4 MKI (T) Enfield Sniper Rifle with Wooden Crate
This is an excellent example of a late WWII production British Enfield No 4 MK 1 (T) sniper rifle that is complete with the wooden storage/carrying case. These rifles were the standard British sniper rifle developed in the late 1930s and used until the early 1960s. The left side of the receiver ring is marked with a "crown / BNP" proofmark. The left side of the butt socket is marked "M47C / ENGLAND/ 1945 / U34138 / TR". The rifle is fitted with the correct, but unmatching, No 32 Mk3 scope that is marked on top of the tube "TEL. STG. No 32 Mk.3 / O.S. 2039 A. / intertwined CTH No25582 / broad arrow" and a blue painted "B". The mount marked"D7411" and the rings numbered "M291" on the front and "M292" on the rear. The rifle has the standard blade front sight and tangent military rear sight. It is fitted with the correct wartime smooth semi-pistol grip stock and full handguard with the standard and correct screw on cheekpiece and proofmarks and is correctly stamped "S51" directly behind the pistol grip area with the steel buttplate with butt trap compartment. This rifle is a No. 4 MKI rifle that was selected for accuracy during production and shipped to Holland & Holland for conversion to sniper configuration. The gunsmiths at Holland & Holland carefully bedded the rifle barrel for maximum accuracy, fitted a cheekpiece on the stock, modified the rear sight, installed mounting blocks on the left side of the receiver and fitted the rifle with a No. 32 Telescopic Sight. The No. 4 MKI (T) is generally considered to be the most accurate and rugged sniper rifle issued by any army during WWII. The underside of the stock is stamped with the H&H conversion code "S51".The rifle is complete with an original leather sling and correct leather scope covers. The rig is complete with the correct wartime green wooden storage/shipping container.
