Excellent U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1871 Army Rolling Block Rifle
An excellent example of an original Model 1871 Rolling Block Rifle, as made under agreement with Remington in 1871 and 1872. The rifle is fitted with a double stop cleaning rod with slotted tip and a folding leaf rear sight graduated to 900 yards. The right side of the receiver is stamped with the Springfield Eagle and Shield motif above "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1872", and the left side is marked "MODEL 1871". Remington patent markings are present on the upper receiver tang and the heel of the buttplate is marked "U.S.". An oval script "ESA" inspection mark is stamped on the left side of the stock wrist.

Excellent. The rifle retains 90% plus of the original casehardened finish with strong case colors. The rear sight has nearly all of the blue finish and the barrel, buttplate and barrel bands retain the original bright finish with some scattered age discoloration. The stock and forearm are in good overall condition with scattered minor dents, gouges and dings associated with a gun of this age. The markings are crisp. This is an excellent example of an original U.S. Springfield Model Army 1871 Rolling Block Rifle.
