Excellent U.S. Colt Army Model 1917 Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter
This was the largest swing out cylinder double action revolver that Colt ever produced and was well liked by the military, remaining in service through two World Wars. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates, the left side "COLT D.A.45" , the underside "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the Rampant Colt appears on the left side of the frame. The upper left side of the frame is marked with the inspectors mark of Lt. Colonel John M. Gilbert. The rear face of the cylinder is marked with a small "H". "U.S./ ARMY/ MODEL/ 1917/ No/ 62/ 624" is marked on the butt. Fitted with smooth walnut grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, butt number, caliber, 5 1/2" barrel, blue finish with grips "Not Listed" and that it was shipped in a shipment of 2600 guns to the U.S. Government Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory, Springfield, MA. on May 20, 1918.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 99% original blue finish with few very small areas of light spotting and a few light scratches on the left side of the barrel and a very faint drag line on the cylinder. The grips are also excellent showing minor wear on the lower edge of the left panel and a few minor scratches. Sharp markings. Excellent action.
