Produced as part of a U.S. Ordnance contract issued in November 1864, the Rodgers and Spencer revolvers were delivered too late for general issue during the Civil War. Nickel silver cone front sight and notch rear sights, with the top strap marked "RODGERS & SPENCER/UTICA N.Y", "B" proofs on several parts, matching serial numbers on the barrel, loading lever, cylinder, frame and butt, and smooth grips with an "RPB" cartouche on the left panel.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 3133
Condition: Very good, with 75% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina, concentrated on the cylinder, top strap and lower edge of the frame, mild edge wear and light handling marks and spotting. Grips are very good, with a dent on the left panel, chip on the right heel, and some light pressure dents. Mechanically excellent, showing signs of having gone unfired, with an absence of flash pitting or nipple damage. A very good example of a well-designed, high quality, Civil War percussion revolver.
